The Cannondale Varia Core SmartSense Battery is a component of the Varia SmartSense system, designed to provide power to various smart cycling devices integrated into the system. This system includes smart lights, radar, and other connected components that enhance cycling safety and performance.

1. Battery Type & Capacity:

The Varia Core SmartSense battery is a lithium-ion battery.

It has a capacity of 2500 mAh, providing enough power to keep the Varia SmartSense system running for long rides, typically ranging from several hours to a full day depending on usage.

2. Battery Life:

It offers extended battery life to support the whole system, with the ability to power multiple devices like rear and front lights, and radar sensors.

The battery is designed to provide up to 12 hours of usage, but this can vary depending on the specific devices being powered and their modes of operation (e.g., light intensity, radar frequency).

3. Integration:

The battery is designed to be mounted on the bike frame, typically in a location like the downtube, where it connects to the other components of the Varia SmartSense system.

It acts as a central power hub, allowing the rider to maintain a cleaner setup with fewer individual batteries for different devices.

4. Smart Features:

The Varia Core SmartSense system offers smart charging, meaning the battery can monitor its own charge status and provide feedback to the user via the connected devices or app.

It supports over-the-air updates, which allows Cannondale to improve system performance and fix bugs remotely.

5. Waterproof and Durable:

The battery is built to withstand the elements, with an IPX7 rating meaning it is resistant to rain and can be submerged in water up to a certain depth for a short period without damage.

6. Charging:

The Varia Core battery comes with a USB-C charging port, offering faster and more efficient charging compared to older micro-USB systems.

The battery can be fully charged in around 2–3 hours depending on the charging source.

7. Compatibility:

The Varia Core SmartSense battery is specifically designed to work with the Cannondale Varia SmartSense system, which includes radar (such as the Varia RCT715 radar), smart front and rear lights, and potentially other sensors and devices, providing integrated cycling safety features.

The Cannondale Smart Sense Varia Core was released in January 2022.
